On Wednesday, April 3rd, singer/songwriter Vanessa Stevens, “whose example and courage is an inspiration to others,” received the Out of the Shadows award by the Safe Haven Program of Greater Waterbury Inc.
Vanessa is the creator of The Purple Song Project and included on the program that night was an original song by Vanessa on the theme of the evening. The Safe Haven Program is where Vanessa began her recovery as a survivor of domestic violence.
Vanessa also received an official proclamation from Governor Dannel P. Malloy, who attended the event with his wife, First Lady, Cathy Malloy. In addition, Vanessa was recognized by U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal and Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty, also in attendance.
