Susan Omilian helps educate her audience on a variety of topics from her own unique perspective. For the past forty years, she has advocated to end violence against women as an attorney and published author, working not only with victims of crime but also with male perpetrators.
As a survivor of a domestic violence homicide and author of several books including Entering the Thriver Zone: A Seven-Step Guide to Thriving After Abuse, Susan’s mission is to motivate others to see that anyone can be a victim of abuse and learn how to protect themselves and their loved ones. As a recognized national expert on the empowerment of women after abuse and trauma, she wants people to understand that they can live productive, happy lives after being subjected to domestic violence, sexual assault and other violent assaults. With extensive background, experience and a sense of purpose, Susan can speak on several topics, or you can suggest a topic for a particular audience.
Victim to Survivor to Thriver: Living Beyond Abuse
When Susan’s nineteen-year-old niece was killed in 1999, a victim of dating violence, Susan transformed the tragedy into a unique opportunity to help others move beyond abuse and violence in their lives. Maggie's story
Maggie was a smart, strong-willed young woman who knew how to take care of herself. How could she become a victim of dating violence? In telling the story of Maggie, her nineteen-year-old niece killed in 1999 by her ex-boyfriend, Susan explodes the myths about dating violence and reviews the warning signs. Her talk can help women and men alike see Maggie’s tragic death as a cautionary tale, but also a catalyst for the action needed to address dating violence in our society.
